Each car has a hood made of an opening element so that it is possible to check the oil level in the engine at any time, and also to top up all the necessary fluids if necessary. Unfortunately, the hood can jam at the most inopportune moment. Therefore, every driver should know several ways to urgently open it.
Necessary
- - cotton gloves;
- - set of screwdrivers;
- - pliers;
- - rug;
- - torch;
- - assistant.
Instructions
Step 1
Position the car so that there is access to the engine compartment from the front bumper. To do this, you need to drive the car onto an overpass, lift it on an electric lift in the service, or drive into a pit.
Step 2
Try to press with your hands on the place of the hood, under which the lock is located. The most common cause of breakage is the lock spring. Ask your assistant to get behind the wheel and pull the hood release lever towards you as far as it will go. Press down on the edges of the hood at the same time. From pressing, the spring can straighten and jump out of the wedge, releasing the latch.
Step 3
Try to find out what exactly is preventing the hood from opening freely. On most models, the lock is in the center, and there are tabs on the sides. Pull gently on each side of the hood to find the side where the opening mechanism is jammed.
Step 4
Get under the car. Try to find the hood lock and open it from the inside. To do this, you need to use either a long wooden stick or a long blade screwdriver. You need to get to the tongue of the lock and bend it as much as possible. It is best to do this procedure with a partner so that he can immediately open the freed hood, otherwise the lock may close back under the weight of metal.
Step 5
Examine the radiator grill carefully. Unscrew the bolts holding it. If there is no access to them from the outside, then carefully break down the grate. After that, stick your hand through the hole, feel for the hood lock and open it manually. If this does not work, then unscrew the bolts holding the lock and remove it. All procedures for opening a stuck bonnet should be performed only with the car engine turned off!
Step 6
A stuck bonnet can be the result of a broken drive cable. In this case, it is best to try to find the place of the cliff. In this case, in most cases, you will have to disassemble part of the car torpedo in the place where the hood opening lever is located. A torn lock drive cable cannot be repaired; it should be replaced with a new one.
