Removal of the starter is necessary when signs of malfunction appear. This device is necessary in order to spin the motor shaft to such a frequency that it is enough to start the motor.
Instructions
Step 1
Before starting work on the Audi 80, disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the storage battery. This will eliminate the possibility of a short circuit. Then remove the lower part of the engine compartment protection. To do this, raise the front of the vehicle with a jack and secure it with supports.
Step 2
Unscrew the plastic nuts in the wheel arches or turn the lock. Then use a screwdriver to turn the locks on the rear edge of the trim. It must be rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise. Hang the trim on the front bumper mount, then gently lift it up in the wheel arches on the left and right. Then remove the protective part by pulling it back.
Step 3
Find the solenoid relay from which you want to disconnect the wires. Then remove the starter mount, which is located at the front in the direction of travel. Also remove the bolts or nuts that are located on the starter mounting flange. Then carefully remove the part you want.
Step 4
Check it for visible damage and defects. If the starter loses its functionality, try replacing it with the brushes that are sold with the mounting plate. To carry out this procedure, unscrew the screws on the starter that secure the bearing cover, and then remove it.
Step 5
Remove the lock and adjusting washers located under the shaft cover. Unscrew the rear housing cover fastener and remove it. Using a measuring tool, determine the length of the brushes, the minimum value should be 8 mm. Otherwise, disconnect the plate from the solenoid relay and install a new set of brushes. Remember to seal the housing and bearing caps and the mounting screws after installation.
