Step 1
Before removing the starter to replace it, check the serviceability of all its circuits, and also make sure that the battery is well charged. Step 2

Stop the engine and remove the ignition key from the lock, put the car on the handbrake. Raise the hood and disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Using a screwdriver, unscrew the bolts that secure the starter.
Step 4
Locate the bracket on top of the starter. Lower the two bolts of this bracket, then slightly lower the starter down and unscrew the rest of the bolts. Remove the starter permanently and replace or check it.
Step 5
The check is to connect the wires to certain terminals of the starter. If the starter is defective, then it will not rotate, but the overrunning clutch will extend. Also, the starter must be replaced if the clutch does not move, and only clicks are heard.
