Chrome parts are perhaps the most striking elements of the car. The brilliance and purity of polished metal attracts and delights any look. However, the beauty of chrome can be ruined by improper cleaning.

It is necessary

  • - a drill with a felt circle;
  • - polish for chrome;
  • - microfiber cloth;
  • - ammonia;
  • - a piece of chalk;
  • - cola.

Instructions

Step 1

Chromium plating is a technology of coating metal surfaces with a thin layer of chromium to increase their strength, corrosion resistance or for decorative purposes. The most common method of chromium plating is galvanic, when, under the influence of an electric current, chromium from the electrolyte is deposited on a metal part.

Step 2

To return chrome parts to their original shine, it is best to use a special polish (polishing paste) for chrome, which can be purchased at any automotive chemistry store. Apply the polish to a felt pad or microfiber cloth and wipe the dirty or darkened surface.

Step 3

You can also use the so-called GOI paste. In its normal state, it is a solid substance, but it can be heated to the state of plasticine and in this form applied to a felt disc.

Step 4

There is a budget option for cleaning a chrome-plated part affected by rust: on a soft cloth dipped in ammonia or turpentine, apply crushed chalk or tooth powder and gently clean the part. After processing, the cleaned area must be covered with transparent varnish.

Step 5

Finally, you can use the folk way. Oddly enough, small stains on chrome can be removed well with regular cola. In all likelihood, the matter is in the orthophosphoric acid contained in the drink. Similar folk remedies include dry cement powder, which also copes well with dark spots and dirt. Chromium is a hard metal, so it is quite tolerant of abrasive materials such as crushed chalk or dry cement. You can scratch it only with sandpaper, and even then with some effort.

Step 6

If the chrome plating is damaged, it has "sores", then polishing will no longer help. The "incurable cases" include the presence of rust on the part itself under the coating. To return the original qualities, you will have to contact special workshops for a new chrome plating.
