A tachometer is a device that shows the rotational speed of parts and mechanisms. It is installed on all cars, but on motorcycles it often has to be installed independently.

Instructions

Step 1

Take a tachometer from any domestic car, for example, from a VAZ. Examine it. Most likely, you will see three connectors on it: +12 Volts, ground and an input from the ignition coil. Connect it to your motorcycle and check if it works. In most cases, it will show a frequency that is 2 times less than the real one.

Step 2

Alter the tachometer, the essence of this process is to replace the capacitor in the ammeter circuit. To do this, disassemble the device. Unscrew the three screws at the back, then carefully pick up the metal braid that holds the plastic part. She, in turn, holds the glass. Remove all three parts at the same time, try to do it very carefully, without spoiling the appearance of the tachometer.

Step 3

Find the capacitor you need. Most likely, it is blue or green, its capacitance is 0.22 uF. In order for the device to show the correct value, you need to approximately double this capacity. To do this, take a capacitor with a capacity of 0.47 μF, because a capacitance of 0.44 μF does not exist. The second way to increase the capacitance is to connect a second capacitor with exactly the same capacitance. Find it in old TVs, tape recorders and other digital equipment.

Step 4

Put back the glass, the braid and close the tachometer by tightening the screws. Find the +12 Volt wire that comes from the ignition switch, connect it to the corresponding connector on the tachometer. Do a similar procedure with the "mass". Connect the wire from the ignition coil to the remaining terminal on the device. Make sure that this last wire comes from the place where the contact of the ignition distributor is located.

Step 5

Check the operation of the tachometer in action. This time everything should be correct in the testimony. If you want even more accurate results, then carefully adjust the tachometer with a trimming resistor, which is located on the instrument case.
