Instructions
Step 1
First, lay out the required shape on a pre-prepared foam plastic bonnet. It is easy to work with this material, it easily takes the forms we need. We wrap it with aluminum foil and wrap it with aluminum tape so that the resin does not eat our foam.
Step 2
We clean the places of contact of fiberglass with the hood lid. If this is not done, the fiberglass will not stick to the surface of the hood. And only after that we can start applying fiberglass to the structure.
Step 3
Let's wait until the resin is completely dry. Now you can work with putty too. We apply it in a thin layer and at the same time give it the outlines we need. You just don't need to apply the filler in a thick layer. Otherwise, it will just crack. Remove excess filler with sandpaper, and level the surface.
Step 4
Now you can paint the part and see how it will look on the car. After trying on, remove the cover. Then we wrap it with fiberglass along with resin over the entire surface. This procedure should be repeated 4 to 5 times.
Step 5
Let's wait until the resin finally rises. Carefully detach the new fiberglass hood cover from the old one. We do the same with the back of the hood. Having received the stencil from the back half of the hood, we connect both halves into one whole with resin.
Step 6
After that, you can start leveling the surface with a putty. The entire surface of our hood should be putty in several layers. Then we level the surface with sandpaper, preparing it for painting.
Step 7
Before painting, you need to inspect the hood one last time, all the gaps. If everything suits us, we put a cover on the mounting brackets. Add aluminum strips to the inside of the bonnet to stiffen the bonnet, crosswise. Then the hood will not "play" at high speeds. Now you can paint and put on the hood on the car.
