The most common problem with opening the hood on a classic Niva or Chevrolet Niva is a broken cable for opening the hood. It can be solved in different ways, depending on where the break occurred. The hood of "Chevrolet" is slightly different in structure from the hoods of other cars, therefore, the method of opening the hood is different.
Instructions
Step 1
Try opening the hood through the air intake vents on the hood itself. To do this, take a steel wire, flashlight and pliers. This is not easy to do, but it is quite possible to do it on your own. There you will see a ledge for which the cable is tied. Aim at it with a screwdriver, it is better to use a flathead screwdriver for this procedure.
Step 2
Another option is to have the procedure done with a partner. One needs to pull the cable, and the second needs to wiggle the hood. This option will work if your lock periodically jams. When pulling the cable, do the following: using the pliers, pull the cable directly in the cabin (not an easy procedure), and let your partner take care of the hood. For best results, combine both treatments.
Step 3
If the spare wheel on the Niva is under the bonnet, and a break occurs near the bonnet lock, then the situation becomes more complicated. Try to push the cable with something on the right side. Or, bite out some partitions on the ventilation grill and hook the loop. It is not an easy task, but the result must be achieved.
Step 4
If so, try a slightly different procedure. Lift the hood on one side and pull out the seal. Next, grab the hood lock on the Niva. Pull it up with force and repeat this movement until the lock on the hairpins is pushed up as much as possible. In the resulting gap, you will see the long-awaited hood lock. Make a hook out of thick wire and pull the catch - the hood will certainly open.
Step 5
If the cable breaks right at the lock, you can try another option. To do this, you need two screwdrivers. With one of them, carefully slide the rubber seal through the hood grille from the air intake, thereby providing access to the lock itself. Insert a thicker screwdriver between the second and third coils of the spring, push to the right (towards the driver) and loosen it slightly at the attachment point. Insert a fine-tipped screwdriver into the spring hinge and turn. The spring should disengage and remain hanging on the left lug. Then lightly press on the hood and it will open effortlessly.
