Almost all cars in the factory configuration do not have hood noise insulation, which significantly reduces the noise of a running engine, and also retains heat in the engine compartment, which is very important in the winter season. You can make noise insulation yourself, as it is a very simple process.
Necessary
- - vibroplast sheets;
- - building hair dryer;
- - a set of metal rollers;
- - degreaser;
- - cotton gloves.
Instructions
Step 1
Drive the car into the garage. If you do not have a garage, then find some indoor space, as it is highly discouraged to install noise insulation outdoors. If desired, you can dismantle the hood in order to gain free access to its back side, on which a soundproofing layer will be applied.
Step 2
Wash the inside of the hood with warm water and a commercial cleaner to remove dirt and dust. If you wash the hood without removing it, cover the engine compartment with plastic wrap to prevent water from getting on the wiring and other units. Let the washed surface dry.
Step 3
Cut out parts of the soundproofing material to fit the grooves on the back of the hood. It is divided into separate areas by stiffening ribs. Never glue a single piece of insulation! In this case, there will be no sense from the glued layer. The more accurately you pick up the pieces of insulation, the less the sound of a running motor will be heard.
Step 4
Degrease the surface thoroughly. Remove the protective layer from the back of the vibroplastic. Stick the piece with the adhesive side to the metal and press down. Take a building hair dryer. Turn it on at maximum power. Heat the vibroplastic in a circular, smooth motion. At the same time smooth out the glued layer with a metal roller. Use different colored rollers to iron the vibroplastic even in the most difficult to reach places.
Step 5
Add an overlay if you want to hide shiny noise insulation. Use only heat-resistant material for the manufacture of the lining. Attach the pad to the rubberized caps so that it does not rattle when driving. You can also put a car blanket if the car has problems with starting at freezing temperatures outside.
