If the ignition switch lock is out of order in your car, you can replace it yourself without contacting a car service. The main thing is to get a new high-quality replacement.
Necessary
- - new ignition switch lock complete with keys;
- - flat screwdriver;
- - Phillips screwdriver;
- - pliers;
- - chisel;
- - a hammer;
- - a diagram of the car's electrical equipment.
Instructions
Step 1
Disconnect the terminal of the wire coming from the minus sign of the battery. Remove the steering column by first using a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the four screws that connect its covers.
Step 2
Unscrew the self-tapping screw that secures the lower casing to the steering column switch and the self-tapping screw screwed into the steering column bracket, after which the steering column covers can be easily removed. Access to the ignition switch lock is open.
Step 3
Remove the bolts securing the ignition switch with a chisel and hammer, as their heads are cut off. After you have loosened the bolts a little, loosen them with pliers. Remove the bracket from the steering column, then remove the ignition switch lock.
Step 4
Disconnect the electrical connector. Unscrew the self-tapping screw for the ignition relay, remove it from under the panel and disconnect the connector. Disconnect the relay wire going to ground, remove the connector with the wires of the contact group. Install a new ignition switch lock in reverse order.
Step 5
Find the color scheme of the car's electrical equipment in the Owner's Manual of your car, if you need to connect the ignition switch lock, which has a broken connector with the wires of the contact group, and you do not know where, which wire needs to be connected.
Step 6
Understand the wiring diagram. A wire of a certain color coming from the ignition switch connects its own consumer of power supply. For example, in the electrical circuit of the VAZ-2109 car, the ignition switch lock is indicated by the number 52, the pink wire coming from it refers to the side direction indicators (indicated by the number 47 in the diagram), the red wire is the starter switch (16); blue is the outdoor light switch (42), and so on.
Step 7
Connect the power wires using the diagram. Collect the castle. Connect the negative wire to the battery. Check the operation of the lock, sensors and electrical equipment in the vehicle interior.
