During 20-degree frosts, everything in the car freezes: not only the doors, but even the ignition lock. This happens especially often with cars on the streets. It is possible to warm up the frozen parts of the car both with the help of improvised means, and with the help of special chemical reagents.
It is necessary
- - lighter;
- - gloves;
- - Silicone Grease;
- - liquid key;
- - hair dryer or fan heater;
- - motor oil;
- - a syringe with a needle.
Instructions
Step 1
Put a glove on your left hand if you are right-handed. Use it to grip the ignition key. Take a lighter in your right hand, and heat the key on its fire. Insert into the ignition and wait 30 seconds. Remove and repeat this operation several times. Then turn on the high beam for 15 seconds to warm up the battery and try to start the engine.
Step 2
Spray the lock with silicone-based lubricant. It is most often used for prophylaxis, but it can also help defrost a castle. She should not be abused.
Step 3
Use an alternative option - the so-called "liquid key". It comes in spray form. "Liquid Key" is an emulsion solution with a lubricating and anticorrosive effect. Helps to separate stuck, burnt, rusted and frozen parts. It is produced by different companies, and experienced motorists advise choosing the expensive but successful brand WD-40.
Step 4
Use a hairdryer or fan heater if the car is in an unheated garage where there is an electrical connection. The hot air should evaporate excess moisture. But if you do not carry out preventive maintenance, the ignition system can freeze again.
Step 5
Lubricate the lock after warming it to avoid getting into trouble again. Take a syringe with a needle and fill it with engine oil. Gently apply grease to the inside of the lock along its entire length. It is not necessary to squeeze out a lot of oil: a maximum of 5 drops. Put about the same amount on the key along the grooves. Insert it into the lock and make a dozen rotational movements. After this operation, it should stop freezing.
Step 6
Check if the ignition switch is working properly if the key is constantly stuck in it. Try using a replacement key first. If that doesn't help, go to a service station. The lock may need cleaning or replacement.
