Engine idling is more than necessary for the driver, especially when driving on city roads with a lot of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings. The inability not to jam the car during periods of short stops significantly complicates the movement. Idling failure can occur due to a malfunction of the special sensor responsible for this function. In the event of a breakdown, it must be replaced as soon as possible.

Necessary

  • - idle speed sensor;
  • - crosshead screwdriver;
  • - engine oil.

Instructions

Step 1

Place your machine on a level surface. Apply the parking brake. When you've finished all preparations, open the hood of the car and find the idle speed control. In most cars, it is located on the throttle body (you can find it by pressing the gas pedal all the way). Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery, this will prevent a short circuit in the power supply to the engine.

Step 2

Remove the throttle assembly to facilitate replacement of the idle speed sensor. The regulator is secured with three screws. They must be unscrewed with a Phillips screwdriver towards the throttle assembly. Be careful as on some vehicle models one of the screws may parallel the wiring harness bracket. Then carefully remove the regulator from the throttle tube.

Step 3

Before installing a new sensor, clean any debris from the throttle body air passage and O-ring mounting surface. Carefully inspect the seal, if cracks, scuffs or signs of wear appear on it, then it must be replaced. Before installing, the O-ring must be thoroughly lubricated with engine oil.

Step 4

Place an O-ring on the hole in the throttle assembly. Then insert the new idle speed sensor all the way into it. Now tighten the mounting screws securely. Remember to secure the wiring harness bracket. Screw the throttle assembly into place. Check that all fastening points are correct and tight. Now put the negative terminal on the battery and try to start the engine.
