Many car owners tune their vehicle by installing so-called "gills" in the bonnet. They may be needed in order to saturate the engine compartment with more air for better pressurization using air currents in cars with a turbocharged engine. Also, "gills" perform the function of cooling the engine and ensuring the outflow of hot air.
Necessary
Marker, grinder, polyester putty, sandpaper, water
Instructions
Step 1
Before installing the "gills", determine which is best to install on the structure of your car. For turbocharged engines, the air intake function is suitable, for atmospheric engines - the outflow function.
Step 2
Decide what you want to achieve with tuning such as installing the "gills". Each function has its own options. If you want to ensure the outflow of hot air, then the gills must be installed towards the windshield. To saturate the engine compartment, they must be directed to the front bumper. Some "gills" can make your car individual and unique. To make them you will need: a marker, grinder, polyester putty, sandpaper and water.
Step 3
Draw the shape of the future holes with a marker. Try to draw so that the outline does not go along the stiffeners. Such care is necessary to avoid cutting.
Step 4
After you have marked the places of the cut, start sawing with the grinder, observing safety measures and personal protection. Having made cuts for the "gills", bend the iron from the plane of the hood by no more than 7 centimeters, then streamline the holes using polyester putty. It is needed to support bent parts.
Step 5
Sand the places where the putty is applied to an even application with sandpaper dipped in water. After the work done, send the hood for painting to professionals. Upon completion of all work, freshly made "gills" will delight your eye, distinguishing your car from other vehicles.
