Probably every motorist had to deal with the problem of a suddenly flat tire, regardless of gender, age and driving experience. For this reason, knowing how to change a wheel with your own hands will help save your nerves, time and money if a similar trouble happened to you somewhere on the road.
Replacing a wheel with a damaged tire does not require specific skills and abilities from the car owner, but the approach to this process must be thorough and responsible. So that the situation with a broken wheel does not take you by surprise, you must always have a jack in the trunk of your car, a wheel wrench that matches the size of the wheel nuts and, of course, a spare wheel.
Precautions
Before changing a wheel, choose a safe, clean and dry place to stop the machine whenever possible. After turning off the engine, the car is put on the handbrake and first gear, or the automatic transmission selector is moved to the parking position. The wheels are fixed with any kind of stops that can be found: large stones, bricks or special blocks. When replacing the front wheel, the stops are placed against the rear wheels and vice versa.
Preparatory work
Turning on the "emergency gang" and marking the place of work with a stop sign, use a wheel wrench to slightly loosen the nuts of the wheel that needs to be replaced. If you do not do this and immediately raise the car with a jack, then it will be simply impossible to unscrew the wheel hanging in the air. The jack is installed in places specially designed for this, marked on the lower part of the car body with small risks; If the machine stops on soft ground, place a solid, level object under the jack.
Wheel replacement
Slowly lifting the car with a jack and making sure that it is securely fixed in this position, completely unscrew all the nuts and remove the damaged wheel, putting it under the car body for safety reasons. After that, install the spare wheel and carefully tighten first the upper one, and then all the remaining nuts. The car is lowered and after the wheel touches the ground, use a wheel wrench to tighten all the nuts to the end, check the tire pressure and put all the repair accessories in place.
