Each vehicle model has its own instructions for the assembly and disassembly of the main components. The bumper can be removed by removing just a few screws and clips. This whole procedure takes about half an hour.
Necessary
- - set of screwdrivers;
- - set of wrenches;
- - user's manual.
Instructions
Step 1
Place the vehicle in a well-lit and level area. Raise the hood of the car and examine the plastic shields above the radiator. To access the front bumper, remove the top protective plastic cover that hides the clips and screws for the bumper at the front of the vehicle. Save the screws and plastic cover for reinstallation.
Step 2
Start removing the screws in the center of the bumper and work your way up to the side mounts. Look for screws and clamps that hold it in place. Loosen and remove the screws with a screwdriver. Try to inspect the part from all sides. There should be about 12 screws and four clamps in total. Older cars and trucks may have four bolts that attach the bumper to the frame. Remove these screws and bolts to separate the bumper from the body.
Step 3
When all fasteners are removed, inspect the joints with the car's fenders. Detach the bumper from the fenders and headlights. Most of the parts are interconnected and overlap to increase the rigidity of the structure. Pull the edges of the bumper carefully out from under the other parts. Now the only thing holding the bumper in place is a few clamps.
Step 4
Have someone hold one side of the bumper while you work on the other. Clamps can be hook type or have latches. The bumper, held in place by hook-type clips, simply needs to be raised. If the bumper is held by clips on the latches, then you need to bend them with a screwdriver. Disconnect the hook-type clamps first, and then proceed with the latches.
Step 5
Disconnect all wires that are connected to the headlights in the bumper. Install the wiring harness on the new bumper to ensure the operation of all equipment specified in the vehicle data sheet.
Step 6
Disconnect the bumper from the vehicle after all screws and clips have been removed. If one part of the bumper does not come off easily, it could mean that the part is still attached to the body. Most likely, you missed one of the screws that secure the bumper to the car. Check everything again and fix the problem by releasing the missing clips or unscrewing the screws to complete the removal of the bumper.
Step 7
To install a new bumper, follow all the steps in reverse order. Make sure that you do not have unnecessary parts and everything is installed in its place.
