Motor scooters "Ant" have not been produced for a long time, even spare parts for it cannot be obtained. If a carburetor or cylinder can be found, then the generator, which is made together with the starter in one unit, is very difficult to get. But the presence of a spark on the candle depends on the same node. You involuntarily think about installing the good old magnetto.

Necessary

  • - a set of keys and screwdrivers;
  • - a piece of metal 2-3 mm thick;
  • - drill;
  • - drill;
  • - round file;
  • - lathe;
  • - magneto.

Instructions

Step 1

Try to find a failed unit in the markets for a start, it is quite possible that there is a chance to leave the entire power supply system of the scooter in its original form. But if you are determined to act, then you will need a lot of effort, as well as knowledge of the turning craft at the beginner's level. Magneto can be installed in two ways, which differ in the use of rotors of various modifications. There are old samples that were installed on Tulitsy, they worked only as a generator and gave out a spark. And there are more modern rotors in which the starter function is also added. But not everyone may have an old-style ignition module, so you will have to carry out improvements from what is at hand.

Step 2

Remove the seat from the scooter and remove the plastic cover from the batteries. Unscrew the engine guard mountings. You need to carry out the modernization on the right side of the motor. First disconnect both batteries and set them aside. By the way, after installing the magneto, they will be useless, since the spark will be generated during movement constantly. Now you need to remove the cover with the air duct, which covers the fan. It is bolted to the engine. Here with this cover you need to do a few manipulations, because our magneto will be installed on it.

Step 3

Be careful not to damage the cover, as it is difficult to get it out. In the center there is an emblem of the manufacturer. It must be carefully cut out by making a large-diameter through hole. In this case, about 5-7 millimeters of metal should remain to fasten the magneto body and prevent the destruction of the grating. The hole should ideally be cut on a lathe. If not, you will have to work with a drill, drilling thin holes in a circle. Then you need to process the inside with a round file to give it the correct shape. When this is complete, you need to start docking the shroud to the magneto.

Step 4

Cut a round blank out of the metal that has an outer diameter slightly larger than the distance between the opposing eyes of the magneto. And the inner diameter should be approximately equal to the diameter of the hole in the casing. Bolt this blank to the shroud and magneto. Now you need to do the docking with the crankshaft. Ideally, you need to fix the magneto drive on the fan; it is best to place a layer of rubber between its two halves. This will avoid vibrations that can arise from misalignment. The drive is attached to the crankshaft using a threaded axle. It is screwed on and fixed to the crankshaft nut on one side, and on the other, the magneto drive is put on it.
