Step 1
First, correct the fault diagnosis and oil pressure measurement. The fact is that pressure sensors are triggered when the pressure has reached a critical level and it is too late to take preventive measures. Sometimes sensors fail and need to be checked regularly. Therefore, believe the readings of the sensors with a certain proviso.
Step 2
Choose and purchase a special oil pressure measuring device, paying attention to the oil-petrol-resistant design and the convenient measuring range. Measure through the threaded hole of the pressure sensor. A good device must have a set of adapters in the kit for all threaded connections. They are not cheap, like all professional equipment.
Step 3
Check the engine data sheet for the normal oil pressure and the RPM to measure. If the rpm is not specified, the measurement is carried out in idle mode at the operating temperature of the engine. If the check shows that with the serviceable parts of the lubrication system, the oil pressure is close to the lower limit or below it, send the engine for overhaul.
Step 4
If the check shows a low oil pressure in the lower engine speed range, to increase it to normal, remove and check the oil pressure regulator valve. With reduced oil pressure in all ranges of engine operation, first try to simply top up it. If this does not help, remove the oil sump, clean the oil intake screen. Check the oil intake pipe, replace if damaged.
Step 5
If these measures do not increase the pressure to normal, check the oil pump. If it is defective or worn out, replace it. If all the parts of the lubrication system are in order, then the bearings or engine liners are worn out and it needs serious repairs. The wear of the bearings of the main or connecting rod journals does not require major repairs. If they are not worn out critically, to normalize the oil pressure, treat the engine with a specialized protective and restorative agent.
Step 6
By applying additional additives to the oil, it is possible to achieve the normalization of its pressure. Additives that create additional films between the friction surfaces often just create the illusion of normal pressure in the lubrication system. With their excessive use, the lubrication of the crankshaft journals and liners decreases. This will lead to oil starvation and engine overhaul. Conclusion: do not get carried away with additives. This is a temporary measure allowing safer operation of the engine until it is repaired.
