Engine oil pressure is an important indicator of the condition of the engine. Refer to the vehicle specifications for pressure ratings. If these indicators are close to the lower limit, it is necessary to take measures to increase the pressure.

Instructions

Step 1

Measure the idle pressure with the engine warm. This indicator must be at least 0.08 MPa. Then take measurements when the car is moving at a speed of 40 km / h, here the value should be about 0.2-0.25 MPa. Watch the oil pressure gauge located on the dashboard, if it shows that it is not correct, first check what kind of oil you put into the engine - whether the grade and quality.

Step 2

Try to replace the sensor that shows the oil pressure, often its incorrect operation leads to distortion of the data in the engine lubrication system, which you see on the instrument panel. Check again after replacement. If the pressure is at the same low level, connect a control pressure gauge to the installation location of the indicator sensor and use it to measure the pressure again.

Step 3

Look at the reading on the pressure gauge. If it shows normal pressure, the pressure gauge, which is located on the dashboard, must be replaced. Get a new one and install it.

Step 4

A really low pressure in the engine lubrication system may be due to a clogged pressure relief valve. Therefore, it needs to be cleaned. Unscrew it carefully and rinse thoroughly. Its adjustment will not interfere, which should be done after installing it on the engine. To do this, connect a control pressure gauge, and, looking at its readings, adjust the valve.

Step 5

The last malfunction, due to which the oil pressure in the engines is negligible, may be a malfunction of the oil pump, which must be replaced. Also check the oil receiver strainer, which may be dirty, then just clean it or get a new one. Carefully inspect the connecting rod and main bearing shells, which are located on the crankshaft - their excessive wear can also cause low pressure. After replacing and cleaning these components, check the readings of the instruments, make sure that now everything is in order with the oil and its pressure is at the proper level.
