Compression is one of the main indicators of engine performance, characterizing the maximum pressure in the combustion chamber at the final stage of the compression stroke. It is determined by the compression ratio - the ratio of the total volume of the cylinder to the volume of the combustion chamber. A drop in engine power is a serious reason to measure the amount of compression.

Instructions

Step 1

Install a fully charged battery by preheating the engine and opening the throttle. In this case, the air filter must be removed, and all candles must be unscrewed. A charged battery will be able to spin your engine up to 200 rpm. With a working engine, the compression in all cylinders will be the same.

Step 2

The reasons for the drop in compression can be either wear of the piston group, or a malfunction in the valve mechanism. To establish the exact cause, pour 15-20 grams of engine oil into the faulty cylinders with a syringe and repeat the measurement. If the pressure gauge shows an increased pressure - it's all about the piston rings, with constant pressure - the reason is in the valves.

Step 3

According to experts, the simplest method of increasing the compression ratio is to reduce the volume of the combustion chamber. To do this, you will have to mill the bottom plane of the cylinder head and thus reduce its height. You can also install pistons with a more convex top surface.

Step 4

There is another option - to increase the compression ratio by installing a modified camshaft. With this refinement, you will increase the compression ratio by closing the intake valves later. However, thus increasing the efficiency of the engine, its power, and at the same time reducing fuel consumption, you will have to switch to gasoline with a high octane number.

Step 5

To increase the compression of the engine, turbocompression technology is used today, when air is injected into the combustion chamber with the help of a turbocharger at a higher pressure, that is, in a larger volume, which leads to an increase in the volume of fuel burned and an increase in engine power relative to its volume and the amount of fuel consumed.
