The UAZ car has been known since Soviet times for its excellent cross-country ability. In order to further increase the ground clearance, and, accordingly, the cross-country ability of the car, they carry out the so-called lifting or, more simply, tuning the car, raising its body relative to the frame.
Instructions
Step 1
Of course, in order to increase the ground clearance on the UAZ, it is better to contact a specialist in a car repair shop. But if you have no desire to visit a car service, you can perform a body lift yourself.
First, decide how high you want to lift the body. The most optimal height is about 50-100 mm, since it makes no sense to lift less than 50 mm, and more than 100 mm problems may arise due to a shift in the center of gravity.
Step 2
Next, we will consider the rise of the UAZ car body relative to the frame by 100mm. In order to raise the body to this height, take a square profile with a wall width of 80 mm. From such a profile, cut 12 blanks 100 mm long each.
Step 3
Then take a sheet of metal about 2-3 mm thick. From this sheet, cut 24 80 by 80 mm squares. After that, weld every 2 squares along the ends of the profile.
Step 4
Now at both ends of each profile it is necessary to drill holes with a diameter of 10 mm. To fasten the resulting blanks, purchase 12 bolts with a length of 150 mm and a diameter of 10 mm in advance from the store. Each of the bolts will need two nuts and one washer.
Step 5
After you have prepared the spacers, you can proceed directly to raising the body. To do this, you need to disconnect the radiator, place stops under the wheels and unscrew the 12 bolts securing the frame to the body. Please note that the body must be lifted evenly at the front and rear, since in the event of improper lifting, the body may move relative to the frame, after which it will be rather difficult to bolt into the required holes.
Step 6
After lifting the body, spacers can be installed, while the factory rubber ones do not need to be removed. After installing the spacers, the bolts must be screwed on.
Step 7
Then gently lower the body into place. Now it is already necessary to very thoroughly stretch all the bolts, locking them additionally with the second nuts. Then collect all the pieces back.
Step 8
After lifting the body, problems usually arise with the steering wheel: it simply will not be possible to turn it. To fix this problem, it is necessary to cut off the steering column mount with a grinder. Then move it to the position you want and weld it back to the torpedo. Unfortunately, there is no other way to fix this problem, so you have to do just that. Thus, you have raised the UAZ body by 100 mm.
