Sooner or later, but during the operation of the car, there comes a moment when “something wrong” begins to happen in the engine. An incomprehensible knock is heard, the power drops, "shots" from the muffler are heard. Go to a car service? Why rush, most likely, these are misaligned valve clearances, and it is quite possible to adjust them independently.

It is necessary

  • - a set of wrenches and nozzles;
  • - lever ("crowbar", small crowbar, etc.) for manual "cranking" of the camshaft;
  • - torque wrench;
  • - Probes for measuring gaps;
  • - operating instructions for KAMAZ (IE).

Instructions

Step 1

Shut off the fuel supply and carefully remove the hatch cover at the bottom of the crankcase (for manual crankshaft rotation) and the cylinder head covers. Do not damage the gaskets. Use a torque wrench to check the tightening of the cylinder block bolts (19-21 kgf / m).

Step 2

Place the crankcase flywheel in the down position. To do this, you need to pull back the lock and turn the flywheel 90 degrees. Set the crankshaft to the position that corresponds to fuel injection into the 1st and 5th cylinders of the engine (see pictures and additional instructions in IE). The crankshaft must be rotated with a lever, inserting it into the holes located on the outer surface of the flywheel.

Step 3

Check the tightening of the nuts on the racks for fixing the rocker arms of the adjustable cylinders (4, 2-5, 4 kgf / m). Tighten if necessary. Check the clearance between the end of the valve and the toe of the rocker arm. The size of the gap should be such that the probe 0.25 for the supply valve and 0.35 for the outlet valve passes freely, and 0, 3 and 0.4 - with tension. If the clearances do not correspond to these parameters, then correct it using the adjustment screws. The tightening torque of the adjusting screw itself should be 3, 4-4, 2 kgf / m.

Step 4

Start the engine and listen to how it works. With proper adjustment of the valves, there should be no knocking or extraneous noise in the gas distribution mechanism. Reinstall the removed cylinder head and crankcase hatch covers.
