Step 1
Remove the contacts leading to the steering wheel, then carefully remove it. If you already have a cover on your steering wheel, remove it. Gently wipe the steering wheel, then wrap the steering wheel in cling film in several layers. Wrap until it no longer appears transparent. After that, smooth it down to get rid of more wrinkles and tape it over the entire surface. Draw a line with a utility knife along the inside of the steering wheel, cutting through the film and tape. Remove carefully.
Step 2
Straighten the removed layer of film and tape. To do this, lay it on a flat surface and roll it out with a rolling pin, like dough. It is necessary to straighten it as much as possible. Next, transfer the resulting stencil to a drawing paper and circle it. Cut out a drawing paper along the contour, and then make a pattern from the material with which you plan to wrap the steering wheel. Mark a centimeter along the long edge of each side and wrap it up. Iron the folds with a medium-temperature iron. Be careful not to burn the material. Then punch holes for the ribbon. Insert metal reinforcements into them - this will help prevent material tearing when stretching. Then sew the narrow edges so that the fabric forms a ring. Apply it to the handlebars, open the seam and add material if necessary.
Step 3
Place the cover over the steering wheel and tighten it firmly by threading the strap through the inner holes. It is best to use leather straps - they are strong enough and look good. Tighten the strap securely and check the steering wheel for wrinkles. If they are present, remove the cover and adjust it. Alternatively, you can glue a layer of foam rubber with a thickness of one to one and a half centimeters on the inside of the material. Paint it in the color of the material with a marker - in this case, even if the foam is visible, it will not be conspicuous.
Step 4
Place the steering wheel cover over the steering wheel and tighten thoroughly using the strap. Then put the steering wheel back in place.
