A punctured wheel is not a rare occurrence on our roads, so every car is equipped with a spare wheel. To prevent an unpleasant situation from being caught by surprise, it is worth knowing in advance how to put the "spare tire".
Instructions
Step 1
It is best to change a wheel on a hard road surface so that the car does not "slide" off the jack, therefore, first of all, park the car on a level and firm place. Engage first gear if the car is equipped with a manual transmission, or P (Parking) mode if the transmission is automatic.
Step 2
Wear gloves to avoid getting your hands dirty. If a decorative cap is installed on the wheel, remove it by pulling it firmly. Take the wheel wrench and rip off the nuts. You should not unscrew them completely at this stage so as not to disrupt the thread - your task is only to slightly loosen it.
Step 3
Now install a jack next to the car wheel, and by rotating it, raise the car body so that the wheel can spin freely without touching the ground. Unscrew the wheel completely using the wheel wrench and then remove it.
Step 4
Install the spare wheel and tighten the nuts. The order of tightening the nuts should be alternating: criss-cross for wheels with 4 holes, and “one through” for wheels with 5 holes. Do not try to fully tighten the wheel - using a lot of force, you can easily knock the car off the jack.
Step 5
Lower the jack, and tighten the wheel until it stops, observing the tightening order, and then check if all the nuts are tightened well. Place the decorative cap on the wheel and collect the tools. You can go to a tire shop to repair a punctured wheel.
