Comfort is very important when driving. It is achieved not only through the presence of comfortable and soft seats, but also thanks to the correctly selected steering wheel. Every car enthusiast can install it by himself.
Necessary
- - pencil;
- - head;
- - a hammer;
- - curly screwdriver.
Instructions
Step 1
Remove the key from the ignition, this will simplify the work. Then disconnect the negative terminal wire from the battery so as not to become a victim of a short circuit. Then turn the steering wheel until the anti-theft mechanism locks it. To set the steering wheel straight, use a pencil to mark the dashboard and steering column. Then, using a screwdriver, disassemble the decorative trim, which is located on the steering wheel cushion, in order to have access to the mounting screws. These screws (self-tapping screws) must be removed.
Step 2
Remove the steering wheel cover. Most often, this can be done using a screwdriver or knife. Detach the mount (nameplate) to gain access to the rest of the parts that hold the steering wheel in place. Some designs are simpler, and in order to remove the steering wheel cover, it is enough to pry it with a knife. Perform this step so as not to damage the mounts.
Step 3
Then disconnect the horn and remove it to find the fastening nuts underneath. Remove the steering wheel mounting nut by unscrewing it with a head wrench. Such a wrench is necessary, since the nut cannot be reached with a conventional wrench.
Step 4
Remove the steering wheel, wiggle it from side to side. If your efforts are unsuccessful, try knocking out the steering wheel slightly with your hands or using a hammer, but be careful not to hit that hard. Most often, no more than three hammer blows are needed. The old steering wheel will then be removed
Step 5
Apply labels to the new steering wheel by removing them from the old one. Then install it in the same position. After that, tighten the mounting nut and replace the horn. Then carry out all the actions described above in reverse order, in no way violating it.
