Spark plugs are a part that belongs to the list of car consumables. Due to the end of the service life, due to low-quality fuel, and sometimes due to problems with the engine, they need to be replaced.
Necessary
- - key "10";
- - candle key;
- - a set of candles.
Instructions
Step 1
Based on the general recommendations of car manufacturers, spark plugs should be replaced every 30,000 kilometers, candle manufacturers reduce this period to 15-20 thousand kilometers. But in fact, it turns out that due to difficult weather conditions, poor-quality fuel and the condition of the engines, the candles have to be changed more often than expected. Variants of an abnormal combustion process, such as: early ignition timing, carbon deposits, detonation, misfiring (misfires) - all this indicates that the spark plugs need to be replaced.
Step 2
Park the vehicle on a level surface, apply the parking brake and open the hood. In addition, it is recommended to disconnect the negative cable from the battery. If you are the owner of a VAZ car with a fuel injection system, then the wire will most likely need to be disconnected. On carburetor models, you do not need to do this.
Step 3
If necessary, remove the plastic engine cover that is found on modern car models.
Step 4
Disconnect the spark plug caps from the spark plugs and move the wires to the side.
Step 5
Next, carefully unscrew the candles with a special candle wrench. Be careful, if the car has been recently used, the spark plugs may be hot! Spark plug wrenches differ depending on the engine model. For classic models, the candle head is small in length and 21 mm in size. For future generations, the spark plug wrench should be significantly longer and 16 mm in size. These differences are due to the characteristics of the engines.
Step 6
Remove the twisted candles and inspect them carefully. If the plaque on them is an even light brownish-pink color, the engine is in order, you can put new ones. If all or one of the spark plugs show traces of oil, carbon deposits of a dark or very light color, it is necessary to diagnose the engine.
Step 7
Screw in new candles. On carburetor engines, check that the ignition timing is correctly set. Replace the high voltage wire caps firmly, observing the order of the cylinders. Connect the negative wire to the battery.
