Wrenches, screwdriver, grease

Instructions

Step 1

The main part of the speedometer is the flexible semi-collapsible speedometer shaft. The shaft-cable is placed in a shell, on which a PVC tube is put on. It protects the cable from water ingress and prevents leakage of the lubricant necessary for accurate and trouble-free operation of the speedometer. One end of the flexible shaft of the speedometer is connected to the speedometer on the dashboard using a union nut. With another union nut, the shaft is attached to the speedometer drive, which is connected to the gearbox

Step 2

As a result of long-term operation of the car, the grease in the flexible shaft of the speedometer is gradually developed and dries up. In this case, when driving, you can sometimes even hear characteristic shrieking noises - a dry cable rustles. The speedometer arrow on the dashboard can slow down, twitch, show incorrect values. To correct the defect, lubricate the flexible shaft of the speedometer.

Step 3

To do this, unscrew both union nuts on the side of the speedometer and on the drive side and disconnect it completely. Pull the speedometer shaft towards the drive side of the gearbox until it stops. Spread the ends of the drive end of the shaft apart and remove. Pull the flex shaft out of the sheath from the speedometer side

Step 4

Pour kerosene into a large, shallow container and rinse the flexible shaft and casing well in it, removing all residues of hardened old grease. Dry the washed parts.

Step 5

Lubricate the cable shaft 2/3 of its length from the drive end. Insert the cable into the sheath and secure with the locking washer. Reinstall the flexible shaft of the speedometer and tighten the union nuts.
