But this method also has its drawbacks - the need to constantly keep in touch with the ferryman and quite natural worries about the fate of the car on the way. As a rule, such professional ferrymen are selected according to the recommendations of friends. Another, safer way is to contact a specialized car ferry company. The cost of their services is not much higher, but such intermediaries are able to provide some legal guarantees of their good faith.

If you decide to drive the purchased car yourself, get transit numbers from the traffic police, stock up on a fire extinguisher, a first aid kit and an emergency stop sign. Fill up a full tank of fuel - prices for it in Kaliningrad are much lower than in transit countries along the route. Select a ferry route. It is not worth going through Ukraine because of the hostile attitude of Ukrainians towards Russians. Transit through Belarus is complicated by the need to pay a deposit at the border of 1,500 euros, and then return it. The route through Poland, Lithuania and Latvia requires a Schengen visa. If a separate Lithuanian visa can be obtained quickly and cheaply, then a separate Latvian visa is more difficult for organizational reasons.
