The efficient operation of the diesel engine is possible only with complete combustion of the fuel. For this, the mixture must be ignited at the right time. Since there are no candles in a diesel engine that forcibly ignite fuel, its strokes must clearly correspond to the moments of fuel supply to the cylinders.

Instructions

Step 1

Clean deposits from the oil filler housing, the place where the high pressure pipe of the first cylinder connects to the fuel pump and the hour meter. Set the piston on the first cylinder to the position corresponding to the end of the compression stroke. To do this, turn off the decompression mechanism, and align the marks on the timing gear cover and the fan drive drive pulley by rotating the crankshaft.

Step 2

Remove the oil filler housing, the motor counter. Remove the two mounting bolts and disconnect the splined flange from the fuel pump gear. Disconnect the high pressure pipe from the union on the first cylinder of the fuel pump. Install a momentoscope on this fitting, which is an ordinary glass tube with an inner diameter of no more than 1.5 mm. Any leaks must be avoided when installing it on the union. Fill the entire system with the manual fuel priming pump.

Step 3

Set the fuel feed lever to the full feed position and turn the fuel pump shaft with a wrench until it appears in the momentoscope tube. In this case, the fuel must be completely free of air bubbles. As soon as a clean fuel jet has gone through the tube, drain some of the fuel from it and, slowly (by millimeter) turning the crankshaft, notice the moment when the fuel begins to rise in the momentoscope tube at the position of the pump shaft corresponding to the moment when fuel starts to flow into the cylinder. That is, the fuel supply must correspond to the injection mark on the flywheel. Locate the holes on the splined shaft that match the holes on the gear. Install the connecting strip and lock plates. Tighten the fixing bolts, then install the oil filler neck with the hour meter.
