Engine operation depends on the accuracy of the vehicle ignition system adjustment. Its power, economy and throttle response. The smooth roar of the engine without interruption at any speed pleases the ear of the motorist. Stability of the engine is achieved by performing a phased ignition adjustment: setting the gap on the breaker contacts, adjusting the ignition timing, adjusting settings during the test movement.

Instructions

Step 1

We propose to study all three stages of ignition adjustments using the example of cars of "classic" VAZ models.

Step 2

At the first stage, the gap between the breaker contacts is adjusted. In the course of preliminary preparation, the cover of the "distributor" is removed and the contact surfaces are cleaned. After that, they are checked for contact, which should occur with the entire plane, and not by their separate sections. Otherwise, the contacts are neatly bent, or their plane is undermined by a file.

Step 3

Then, turning the crankshaft, it is necessary to stop at the moment when the contacts open as much as possible. After that, a gap equal to 0.35-0.45 mm is set between them using a probe, while the probe should move between the contacts with little effort.

Step 4

Next, we turn the crankshaft again to the "ignition moment" mark applied to its pulley (not to be confused with "top dead center" - TDC). A control lamp or voltmeter is connected to the terminal of the distributor, to which the wire coming from the ignition coil is connected. After that, a 13 mm wrench loses the nut that secures the interrupter-distributor to the cylinder block.

Step 5

With the ignition on, turn the distributor housing slightly counterclockwise. And after the control lamp goes out, we turn the body in the opposite direction, and stop at the moment it lights up. As a result, the moment of supply of a spark discharge to the spark plug contacts of the corresponding engine cylinder is established. Having set the ignition moment, the distributor mounting nut is tightened.

Step 6

Disconnecting the control light or voltmeter, proceed to the third stage of the ignition adjustments.

Step 7

To complete the final stage, associated with the ignition adjustment, you need to go onto the road. Moving on a flat area in direct gear at a speed of 40 km / h, sharply press the accelerator pedal and hold it in this position until the car reaches a speed of 60 km / h. The entire acceleration process should be accompanied by a detonation knock of the motor (popularly referred to as “knock of fingers”).

Step 8

If the detonation of the engine stops at the specified speed, and further acceleration is not accompanied by the specified knock, then this indicates a correctly adjusted ignition. Any deviations require adjustments to the ignition timing. With the help of an octane corrector, it is necessary to achieve the termination of the detonation effects of the engine upon reaching a speed of 60 km / h.
