In road traffic accidents, the side members are often deformed. The lion's share of such cases occurs on the front of the car body. The part itself acts as volume shock absorbers and amplifiers for mud flaps, hood and trunk. When replacing it or welding, the technology is the same, the only difference is in the use of tools and devices.

Necessary

  • - welding machine;
  • - Sander;
  • - plasma cutter;
  • - metal spatula.

Instructions

Step 1

Free the surface to be repaired from parts and assemblies of the engine, chassis and electrical equipment. Most of the work on the replacement and repair of side members falls on the front of the vehicle.

Step 2

Pull out the damaged side member to its original condition. Do not cut off the deformed part without drawing. This will make it difficult to repair other parts of the body in the future.

Step 3

Take a gas burner and heat the welded parts. Use a metal trowel to remove the primer, sealing tape and soundproofing.

Step 4

Cut off the side member. When replacing the wheel arch, it does not need to be separated from the part being repaired.

Step 5

Align the damaged body parts that come in contact with the side member and prepare a new wheel arch.

Step 6

Cut the part of the new side member to fit the old one. Use a plasma cutter or hand saw for this operation. Fitting the new part will be easier if you slant the cutout. Replace the front panel and wheel arch.

Step 7

Take a jack and place it under the side member and secure. Connect the new side member to other parts with special clamps. Use guide templates for precise positioning.

Step 8

Check that all dimensions are the same and fix the side member in several places by welding.

Step 9

Weld the side member to the butt joint using gas shielded arc welding. Spot weld the wheel arch to the dash and the repaired part. Welding must be through to ensure the strength of the connection of the parts.

Step 10

Align and grind the welds. To do this, use a sander. Tap the places where the side member contacts the wheel arch with a hammer. This will give a tighter touch to each other.

Step 11

Apply primer, soundproofing and sealing tape to the surface.
