In the cold season, it is advisable to equip domestic cars with pre-heaters. Installing them requires an understanding of how these devices work and some technical skills.
Necessary
Prestart heater, hose (~ 2m), metal and plastic clamps, T-shaped metal tee, adapter, wrenches, screwdriver, sealant or sealing tape, knife for cutting hoses, coolant, container for draining coolant (volume 7-10 l)
Instructions
Step 1
Select the type of preheater. It is easier to install a device that runs on electricity than heats the coolant by burning a warm-air mixture in a special chamber. If you have access to a household outlet, purchase an electric preheater that matches your engine type. Power of 1 kW is enough for a passenger car.
Step 2
Drain the coolant through the drain hole on the engine block. Clean the hole. Screw the adapter into it, lubricating the thread with a sealant or sealing it with a special tape.
Step 3
Mount the heater on the bracket in a suitable place near the adapter. Eliminate any touch of the device.
Step 4
Connect the adapter to the heater inlet with a hose. Secure the connections with cable ties.
Step 5
Cut a tee into the upper radiator pipe so that the side connection points towards the heater. Connect the side fitting and the inlet of the heater with the branch pipes using clamps. Position all hoses so that they do not bend or rub against other parts. Use plastic clamps to protect the problem areas from the cut remains of the hose.
Step 6
Pour antifreeze through the radiator filler neck. Check all connections. The coolant must not leak. Close the radiator.
Step 7
Route the power cord and secure it. Avoid contact with moving and heating parts of the engine to prevent mechanical damage.
Step 8
Run the engine for 3-5 minutes. Remove the air plug from the cooling system. Turn off the motor. Add coolant to the correct level if necessary.
Step 9
Check heater operation. Plug it in. If the noise of heating antifreeze is heard and the outlet hose is warmer than the inlet, the work is completed.
Step 10
If there is no outlet in the parking area, select an autonomous pre-heater for installation in accordance with the characteristics of the car. Please note that the installation of such a heater is difficult. The process includes different types of work: mounting the heater in the engine compartment on the shock absorber strut and connecting it to the engine cooling circuit and the interior heater radiator. And also the connection of the combustion chamber of the pre-heater to the fuel system using a metering pump and the creation of an exhaust gas evacuation system. In addition, all these units are connected with electrical cables to the control unit, controller, timer and fuses are installed. And all hoses and wires must be fixed and protected from abrasion.
Step 11
Entrust the installation of an autonomous preheater to the specialists of the service center. The cost of this work is high, but in comparison with the cost of the preheating system itself, it is quite acceptable.
