The malfunction of the constant velocity joint in cars with front-wheel drive to the drive wheels is determined quite simply. It is enough to turn the steering wheel as much as possible to the right or left side and start the car from the place. If at this moment a crackling sound is heard emanating from one or both wheel hubs, then this factor indicates the imminent replacement of the drive.

Necessary

  • - universal puller;
  • - jack;
  • - support stand;
  • - a set of locksmith tools.

Instructions

Step 1

Front wheel drives, each individually, consist of internal and external joints of equal angular velocities, connected by a shaft with splines at the ends.

Step 2

To carry out repairs, place the vehicle on an inspection pit or overpass. Then, using a jack, the front part of the machine with the wheels removed is installed on rigid supports, after which the nuts securing the wheel hub bearings are unscrewed.

Step 3

Further, the ball joint and the tie rod end are disconnected from the rack. We take the rack that has been freed from the fastening with our hands by the wheel hub and with a sharp jerk towards ourselves we pull the hub off the external hinge of equal angular velocities.

Step 4

Then, moving the stand to the side, so as not to interfere with further work, we take the shaft in our hand, and with the other hand, tapping on the shaft with a hammer, we remove it from the gearbox.

Step 5

Having removed the faulty drive, we install a new spare part instead. The drive on the opposite side of the axle is replaced in the same way. The assembly of the machine is carried out in the reverse order.
