Instructions

Step 1

Regardless of your Audi model, replace the timing belt at the times indicated in the vehicle's service schedule. In addition, if you find signs of wear, mechanical damage, immediately change the belt.

Step 2

When inspecting the belt, do not twist or bend it at sharp angles. Do not turn the crankshaft by gripping the camshafts and timing belt pulleys or in the wrong direction. After removing the belt drive, avoid accidentally turning the crankshaft or camshaft.

Step 3

Prepare a new belt. It must be free from dirt and grease. Also, do not twist or bend it at sharp angles. When installing a new belt, be sure to observe the direction of rotation - it must remain the same.

Step 4

Brake the vehicle with the parking brake and disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal. Remove the spark plugs. Drain all liquid from the cooling system into a previously prepared container. Remove the drive belts of the vehicle's auxiliary systems. Then remove the radiator fan together with its bracket. Also dismantle the thermostat housing.

Step 5

After unscrewing the mounting bolt, remove the crankshaft pulley. Then remove both belt drive covers. Turning the crankshaft clockwise, set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC. In this position, the timing marks of the crankshaft and flywheel should be aligned. Remove the crankshaft pulley washer. With the bolt loose, pull the idler pulley away from the belt and secure it in this position by tightening the bolt again. Remove the belt and inspect the condition of the rollers. If you find defects on them, replace them with new ones.

Step 6

Make sure the timing marks have not moved before installing a new belt. Putting on a new belt, start from the camshaft pulley and continue clockwise. After putting on the new belt, re-check that the timing marks are in the correct position. If these marks have shifted from their original positions, repeat the procedure of putting on the belt from the beginning. Turn the crankshaft clockwise so that the S mark on the exhaust camshaft pulley is aligned with the notch.

Step 7

After installing the tension roller in its place, tighten its fastening bolt to a torque of 37-52 Nm. Check the deflection of the new belt. When you press on its upper shoulder with a force of 10 kgf, its deflection should be in the region of 7, 5-8, 5 mm. Reinstall all removed components in the reverse order of removal. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolts with a torque of 12-17 Nm. Refuel the cooling system, screw in the spark plugs, connect the negative battery cable.
