Replacing the timing belt on a Skoda Octavia car cannot be compared with a similar operation on any domestic car. You even have to hang the engine in order to get close to the gas distribution mechanism.

Necessary

  • - keys set;
  • - a set of hex keys;
  • - special key for the tension roller;
  • - 12-sided key for 19;
  • - pit, lift, overpass;
  • - capacity.

Instructions

Step 1

If you are guided by the service book, then on the Skoda Octavia, the timing belt must be changed every 60 thousand kilometers. This is the manufacturer's recommended mileage, during which the belt will honestly serve. You can exploit it more, but this is at your own peril and risk. It is advisable to change not only the roller, but also the pump together with the belt. The service life of the units does not differ much, so it is better to insure yourself.

Step 2

Remove all lining, protection, anthers from the engine. The cladding is fastened with five screws. If you change the pump, you will also need to drain the coolant. For this, a special drain valve is provided. You will also need to remove the power steering reservoir, draining all the liquid from it. Just do not disconnect the hoses from the tank. The expansion tank must also be taken to the side. Then get close to the accessory belt. It needs to be loosened, for this you need to pull the roller, and then remove it. The holes that match must be secured with a suitable key or bolt.

Step 3

Remove the engine mount to hang it up. It is advisable to install a jack under the motor to make it more convenient to work. After unscrewing all the bolts securing the engine support, you need to remove it. This is best done through the bottom, slightly rocking the engine block. The lesson is not easy, but it can be done. After removing the support, also remove the accessory tensioner. Of course, it can be removed earlier, but it is better to leave a simpler matter for a snack.

Step 4

Set the ignition using a 12-point wrench to 19, with which you need to turn the engine crankshaft. The accessory drive pulley has a mark that should match the mark on the engine block. Only after setting the pulley according to the marks, you need to remove it by unscrewing the four bolts with a hexagon by 6. And in the end, the anthers will be unscrewed with a key of 10. That's it, the preparation is over, now the simplest thing remains - replacing the belt, roller and pump.

Step 5

Loosen the roller attachment, then remove the timing belt. Unscrew the pump mounting bolts with a 10 spanner wrench and replace it. Install a new roller and belt. Using a special wrench, turn the roller to tighten the belt. Then tighten the mount. The assembly takes place in the reverse order. And don't forget to fill the system with coolant.
