Checking the oil in the variator consists in measuring its level, which should be in the range between the minimum and maximum values. The oil level is checked using a special dipstick located in the CVT filler neck.

Checking the fluid level in the variator should be carried out at an oil temperature of 50-80 ° C. To warm up the engine, you need to drive 10-25 km, depending on the season. The lower the temperature outside the window, the longer it takes the oil to warm up to reach the above temperature range. Measuring the oil level when the engine is cold can cause an error in the measurement, as a result of which the oil level indicator will be higher or lower than its nominal value.

Checking procedure

Place the vehicle on a horizontal surface before starting the test. The place of measurement can be a garage with a flat floor or an open asphalt area. The engine must be run at idle speed during the test.

Next, the inspector presses the brake pedal and sequentially switches the selector to all positions, lingering at each position for no more than 10 seconds. The selector then returns to its original position, after which the brake pedal is released.

After switching the selector, it is necessary to leave the cab and open the hood of the engine compartment. The dipstick located in the CVT filler neck serves to measure the oil level. To remove the dipstick from the neck, you need to unlock the latch by pressing the switch located on the dipstick head.

Gloves or rags should be used to protect hands when removing the retainer. Also, wipe the surface of the probe dry with a rag. During the check, no moisture or dust should enter the CVT filler neck.

The dried dipstick must be completely placed in the neck, then removed and check the liquid level. The oil level mark should be between the two notches showing the minimum and maximum oil level. After the end of the test, the dipstick is lowered back into the neck, after which its lock is switched to the closed position.

What to do if the oil level is out of the required values

If the oil level in the variator is below the minimum mark, it is necessary to add an identical fluid, the brand of which is indicated in the operating documentation for the car. Rechecking the fluid level is required after topping up. If the rate of decrease in the oil level exceeds its natural flow rate dynamics, the system should be checked for leaks.

If the oil level exceeds the required value, the excess fluid is pumped out using a syringe, at the end of which a rubber adapter tube is attached.
