The idle speed controller is a bipolar stepper motor with a cone valve. Controlled by an electronic engine control unit (ECU), the regulator is designed to change the throughput of the air channel by moving the cone valve.
Necessary
- - Phillips screwdriver;
- - multimeter (tester).
Instructions
Step 1
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal before starting work. There is no need to remove the throttle assembly or fuel rail.
Step 2
Disconnect the wire harness from the idle speed control. To do this, squeeze the pad lock and disconnect the pad itself. Remove the regulator mounting screws to the throttle assembly and remove the throttle assembly from the hole in the throttle assembly. Unscrew the fastening screws carefully. On some foreign cars, one of the screws can secure the wiring harness bracket.
Step 3
On some cars (for example, GAZ), the screws can be bored or set on varnish, which makes it difficult to unscrew them. In this case, dismantle the entire throttle body to remove the regulator. Inspect the O-ring rubber carefully. If you find signs of wear and damage, replace the seal. Do not push or pull on the regulator valve to avoid damaging it.
Step 4
To check the removed regulator, measure the resistance between terminals A and B and between terminals C and D of the device with an ohmmeter. Refer to the markings on the harness connector for pin location and labeling. The resistance value should be 40-80 ohms. This procedure is carried out on the four-pin connector of the regulator.
Step 5
On regulator models with a six-pin connector, first measure the resistance between the outermost terminals of the lower row of the regulator block, and then alternately between the middle and each of the side terminals. Then repeat this procedure for the terminals of the upper row of the block. The measured resistance should be 30-60 ohms. Check the specific numbers in the specification or technical documentation for the machine.
Step 6
On the new regulator, measure the distance between the tip of the valve needle and the connecting flange and compare with the distance on the old device. If this value is higher on a new one, it will be damaged during installation.
Step 7
Before installing a new regulator, lubricate the o-ring with fresh engine oil, clean the throttle seat and air passage, mounting flange and the surface adjacent to the o-ring.
Step 8
Insert the new regulator into the hole in the throttle assembly until it stops. Hold it with one hand and tighten the fixing screws to a torque of 3-4 Nm. Remember to fit the wiring harness holder to the desired fixing screw
