As a rule, the power steering fluid is replaced at a service station, but you can do it yourself. If this work is not done on time, the unit will fail and then you will have to change it completely, including the oil pump.

Instructions
Step 1
Park the vehicle on a level surface, preferably in a garage. Determine the location of the power steering reservoir (GUR) under the hood. Start the engine and in idle mode, turn the steering wheel to the left and right to the maximum angle. Open the tank cap and check the liquid level markings. If the level is below normal, use paper towels to check for leaks. If necessary, tighten the clamps on the pipes through which the fluid circulates with a screwdriver. Make sure there is no foam or foreign bodies in the reservoir and that the liquid is not cloudy. Stop the engine, the difference in fluid levels in the reservoir should not change by more than 5 mm. This indicates that the power steering is operational.
Step 2
Stop the engine and remove the used fluid from the reservoir. To do this, use a special mechanism that draws off the liquid using a vacuum. Depending on the car brand, the amount of liquid is from 80 to 320 ml, but the average value is 250 ml.
Step 3
Pour new fluid into the reservoir up to the level marked on the reservoir. If the fluid filter was removed before, install it first. There should be no underfilling or overflow of liquid, this is equally harmful for power steering. Start the engine and turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and left several times. The liquid level should not change in this case. After the plug, the level should decrease by no more than 5 mm. The steering time must not exceed 15 seconds, otherwise the oil pump may break. Check how tightly the cover closes and the integrity of the pipes through which the liquid flows, for leaks.
Step 4
Since when replacing the power steering fluid, it is updated only partially, then carefully inspect the pumped out fluid. If it is too clogged with foreign bodies, perform the suction and filling process after the engine is idling, perform two more times.
