An acoustic podium is designed to improve the sound quality of an audio system. When installing such a podium, many restrictions on the choice of audio equipment are removed. The acoustic podium increases the comfort of the car, as it increases the possibility of installing acoustics for passengers sitting in the front seats. It is possible to independently make an acoustic podium without the use of expensive materials and complex technologies.
Necessary
- 1. Plywood with a thickness of 8-10 mm
- 2. Eight wooden blocks
- 3. Epoxy adhesive
- 4. Fiberglass or stockings / tights
- 5. Polyurethane foam
- 6. Paint
- 7. Putty
- 8. Electric drill
- 9. Jigsaw
- 10. PVA glue, knife and screwdriver
- 11. Self-tapping screws
Instructions
Step 1
First, make patterns for the door trim. Place the pattern on a sheet of plywood, circle it with a marker and cut it out with a jigsaw.
Step 2
Then you need to make bars and rings. The bars should give the future podium the desired slope of 15-20 degrees. They need 6: two low, two medium and two high. Tall ones should stand under the rings, low ones above the rings, middle ones on the sides. The structure is glued together and connected with self-tapping screws. Before screwing in the self-tapping screws, drill the necessary holes for them. Dry the resulting skeleton of the acoustic podium well.
Step 3
Now make double rings that will give the safety net the desired position in relation to the podium. First, cut the ring to the inside diameter of the safety net. In this case, the mesh should fit tightly into the ring. Then use a jigsaw to cut the ring to the inside diameter of the speaker seat. In this case, do not install the speaker too tightly into the ring. Finished rings are connected with self-tapping screws lubricated with PVA glue.
Step 4
Place the skeleton of the podium on the floor covered with newspapers and prepare the polyurethane foam. Fill the entire skeleton with this foam in several steps, since, when it dries, the foam almost doubles in volume. Then dry the foam-covered skeleton for 24 hours.
Step 5
Shape the foam to the desired shape with a knife, then sand with a sharpening bar. Strengthen the resulting podium with fiberglass or stockings / tights. To do this, cover the podium with them and treat with epoxy glue in two layers. The second coat should be applied two hours after the first. Dry the glue for 12 hours.
Step 6
Sand the dried glue, then smooth with a putty. Sand the dried filler again until the surface is as smooth as possible.
Step 7
The podium should be painted in a well-ventilated area, leaving no smudges. Install the speakers in the finished acoustic podium and assemble in the door trim.
