Front suspension knocking can occur for a variety of reasons. To detect the source of malfunctions, it is necessary to visually inspect the bottom of the car, check the serviceability of the ball bearings, steering knuckles, etc.
Instructions
Step 1
The design of the front suspension is more complex than the rear one, because it is the first that takes the hits of "road surprises" and provides a smooth ride and comfort of movement. Therefore, a knock in the front suspension is a fairly frequent phenomenon, which occurs for many reasons.
Step 2
To find out the cause of the abnormal noise, it is necessary to visually inspect all parts and elements in the front of the machine. Even if you are not good at repairing cars, you should not immediately drive her to the service station. Perhaps it's all about a foreign object trapped in the front of the car, which you can easily remove yourself without resorting to the services of specialists.
Step 3
Inspect all rubber components carefully. If any of them breaks, the risk of breakage of the unit protected by the boot increases. After dismantling the shock absorbers, diagnose them and do not try to rock the body: this method has not worked for modern cars for a long time. If a visual inspection reveals parts with oil leaks, they must be replaced.
Step 4
A knock in the front suspension can be caused by ball bearings, silent blocks, steering knuckles. Booms and levers can also cause the above problem. Moreover, the source of knocking can be both the place of their attachment to the body, and the point of placement of the sealing elements. This breakdown is easy to identify visually. Worn tie rod ends are also capable of producing characteristic noises when overcoming bumps. By tugging the steering wheel, you can assess their condition. If this is problematic, you will have to go to the service station.
Step 5
It is advisable to carry out the diagnosis of this important unit of the car completely, since it sometimes happens that a knock in the rear suspension can be heard from the front. When checking the rear suspension, be sure to assess the condition of the exhaust system. This is easy to do both visually and manually by swinging the knot in different directions. If you notice any part of the muffler that has come off, you can say with almost 100% certainty that you have found the cause of the knock in the front suspension.
Step 6
It is possible that the characteristic sounds do not come from the suspension either. It could have been provoked by the contact between the protection and the crankcase of the motor or other elements of the car. Inspect all mounting bolts and anti-roll bar. Such diagnostics allows you to independently make a verdict and decide whether the suspension needs a major overhaul, or just a few suspenders will be enough. In any case, do not delay repairing the detected malfunction, because your safety depends on the chassis of the car.
