The vacuum ignition timing controller is a device located in the distributor housing. Designed to change the ignition timing depending on the engine load. To check it, preliminary adjustment of the breaker is required.

Instructions
Step 1
Check the angles of the closed state of the breaker contacts. To do this, set the rotational speed of the distributor roller at 900-1100 rpm and, according to the readings of the pointer, determine the value of the angle. If the angle does not meet the requirements established for this type of breaker, loosen the fixing screws of the terminal post, insert a screwdriver into the slot on this post and set the desired angle value. Tighten the screws when finished.
Step 2
Check and adjust the gap between the breaker contacts. To do this, set the distributor roller to the position where its textolite pad stops on the edge of the cam. In this case, the gap between the contacts will be maximum. Use a feeler gauge to measure the gap and adjust if necessary. Changes in the characteristics of the breaker will inevitably lead to a malfunction of the vacuum regulator, therefore, checks and adjustments in these devices are carried out in a complex manner.
Step 3
Check the centrifugal ignition timing regulator. To do this, at the control points, mark the angles set by the regulator with a gradual increase in the rotational speed of the distributor roller. At low speeds, adjust by changing the position of the weight stand, on which a thin spring is attached. Bend in the thick spring mount at high rpm.
Step 4
To check the vacuum regulator, set the minimum stable rotational speed of the distributor roller, at which the regulator opens to the largest angle. Create a vacuum in the chamber of the vacuum machine using a vacuum pump. Measure the ignition advance angles first with a gradual increase in vacuum, then with a gradual decrease.
Step 5
Comparing the measured angles with the requirements established for the given regulator model, determine the need for their correction. Adjust the angles of the vacuum regulator by displacing it relative to the distributor body along the horizontal axis. In addition, the vacuum regulator can be adjusted by pressing on the annular surface of the stamped casing.
