When repairing and modernizing the heater on Volga cars, dismantling of the heater is required to carry out the work. To dismantle it, no special equipment or any specialized tool is required.
Necessary
Rubber gaskets, clamps, coolant, a set of wrenches and screwdrivers
Instructions
Step 1
Before carrying out any work, place the car on a level surface without tilting and brake with a hand brake. Wash the engine compartment. Wait for the engine to cool down. Then drain the coolant from the engine. Place a cloth under all connecting clamps and pipes. When dismantling the heater, clean all fasteners and screw connections with a wire brush from corrosion and dirt.
Step 2
If it is necessary to completely disassemble the heater, remove the torpedo. If a complete disassembly of the heater is not needed, simply slide the torpedo sideways a few centimeters. To move the torpedo, remove the ashtray with a cigarette lighter, steering column lining and remove the two bolts and six screws securing the torpedo. After that, it must be pushed aside.
Step 3
Remove the lower fuser decoration panel, if installed. Disconnect the heater motor by disconnecting the connector. Locate and disconnect the two resistance connectors near the motor. Unscrew the two nuts and remove the upper air distributor housing. Its body is made up of two parts, connected to each other by metal clamps. The distributor housing is attached to the heater console with latches.
Step 4
It will not work to disconnect the mechanism of levers and rods of the heater valve drives and dampers, since this mechanism is attached to rivets. There are two ways out: disconnect all drive rods from the dampers and stove tap or purchase a new console. On the old console, break off the area where the drive mechanisms are attached, free them from the rivets. When assembling, fasten the mechanisms with screws.
Step 5
Disconnect the rod from the right side of the air intake flap. Loosen all clamps and remove the heater radiator hoses. Remove the gaskets from the radiator pipes of the stove. Subsequently, during assembly, replace the clamps and gaskets with new ones. Unscrew the nut that secures the heater housing. On the underside of the heater housing, unscrew the two nuts securing the heater to the air intake, holding the housing itself.
Step 6
Gently pull the heater body towards you, while lowering the right edge of the stove down.
