The safest for a car is the steering wheel (steering wheel), which was installed by the manufacturer. It has been developed specifically for a specific model and has been tested. However, there are many reasons why car enthusiasts are installing a new steering wheel. This is both inconvenience, lack of comfort, and just a design change in the car. Before you put the steering wheel, you must first remove the old one. Let's consider this process using the example of VAZ cars.
Instructions
Step 1
Before starting work, disconnect the negative wire from the battery terminal. Remove the key from the ignition and turn the steering wheel gently until you hear a click, which indicates that the device that locks the steering shaft has been activated.
Step 2
Use chalk or a writing object to mark the steering wheel and dashboard in this position. This is important when installing the new handlebar further so that it snaps into place in the correct position.
Step 3
Use a screwdriver or a knife to pry the cover plate, which is attached from the top, and remove it. There are two self-tapping screws under it. Unscrew them and remove the cover, unscrew the steering wheel nut, but not completely, but only a few threads.
Step 4
Pull the steering wheel along the splines of the shaft, and, unscrewing the nut to the end, remove the steering wheel. Take a new wheel, align it with the old one, and transfer the marks. After that, you can put the new steering wheel in its place in the reverse order.
Step 5
When installing the handlebars, the fastening nut often falls out of the head. To protect yourself from this, insert a wire of a suitable cross-section between the nut and the head, which you remove after you screw on the nut.
Step 6
Tighten the nut. Check the functionality of the newly installed steering wheel on level ground while driving. If the steering wheel spokes are asymmetrical when driving in a straight line, then remove the steering wheel and install it correctly.
