Wheel rims wear out over time. At the same time, many throw out worn-out wheels and put new ones. But if you like these discs, if only one disc is damaged or there is simply no desire or opportunity to buy new ones, they resort to repair and restoration work.
Necessary
- - 1-2 cans of paint;
- - 2-3 cans of colorless varnish;
- - 2-3 cans of automotive primer for each disc;
- - sandpaper of different abrasiveness;
- - abrasive paste;
- - rust converter;
- - napkins, scotch tape.
Instructions
Step 1
Wheels are divided into cast and stamped. Cast ones wear out and rust less. The painting process for both discs is the same. Spray discs with finished automotive enamel. Practice applying the paint evenly by shaking the can beforehand.
Step 2
Thoroughly clean and wash the discs. Inspect them thoroughly and sand all rusty areas with sandpaper. Dampen a rag with a rust converter and apply to the cleaned area for a couple of hours. After that, clean up the corrosion spots again to clean metal. Clean old paint from irregularities and chips, washing off dust from time to time with water. The paint can be removed quickly with a thinner for old coatings. Use a flat screwdriver or awl to pick out paint from hard-to-reach places.
Step 3
Start sanding with coarse sandpaper, then smooth the surfaces with fine sandpaper. Cover the entire disc with several coats of primer. Make a gap after each layer. Dry the completely applied primer within 24 hours. Then sand the surface, trying to achieve perfect evenness. Rinse off the resulting dust periodically. After sanding, dry the surface and clean it from debris. Paint on a spread cloth or polyethylene so that dust does not get on the surface to be painted.
Step 4
Shake the paint in a spray can before painting. Paint at a distance of 40-50 cm to the surface to be painted. Apply several coats at intervals of 10 minutes after each coat. After painting, cover with several coats of clear varnish at the same intervals. Check the surface for unevenness between coats of varnish and sand with sandpaper or abrasive paste. Dry the painted and varnished product within a week.
Step 5
Finally, polish the disc with a special polish. If the painting fails, repeat this operation again.
