Necessary

  • 1) Material for door trim of different colors (carpet, leather, etc.);
  • 2) Construction stapler;
  • 3) Sewing machine;
  • 4) Fiberboard sheet;
  • 5) Stationery knife;
  • 6) Screwdriver;
  • 7) Hacksaw.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the old door panel. To do this, remove the window handle. This is done simply: remove the locking half ring with a screwdriver, then pull out the window regulator handle by moving it towards you. After that, only the support ring remains. Proceed to unscrew the door armrest. It is attached with two or three screws. Take out the panel.

Step 2

Cut out a new panel. This is necessary as the old panel is usually not suitable for cladding with new material. If this is not the case for you, then you can leave the old panel. Use a fiberboard sheet to cut a new panel. The old panel will be the template. Outline it with a pencil and use a hacksaw to cut a new one. It is advisable to sand its edges and wipe it with a wet cloth to remove fine sawdust. Remember to make holes for the window handle and screws for attaching the door handle.

Step 3

Start sewing. You can skip this step if you are going to make the panel in one color. But usually the car interior is a set of two or three colors, so the door panel should be in harmony. You can create a pattern from the material, you can just cut two different pieces. Fit your material to the panel sheet and use a utility knife to cut the required amount of material. Remember that the material should be released from the edges of the panel by five to six centimeters. Use the sewing machine to cut the fabrics in different colors for the panel.

Step 4

Apply the cut material to the panel. Pull it on at the ends and fold it over the edges of the panel. Now, using a construction stapler, start attaching the edges of the material to the panel. This is done from the reverse side. Thus, go around the panel, pulling the material all the time to avoid sagging. At the end, cut out a hole for the window handle with a clerical knife.
