Buggy is a light four-wheeled vehicle with a simplified body designed for driving both on paved roads and without any road at all. For the first time, buggies appeared in the middle of the last century in the United States, and since then have spread throughout the world as a means of outdoor activities.
Instructions
Step 1
Decide whether the buggy is sporty, walking or utilitarian. Sports cars are designed to compete. Typically single seaters, the engine is usually located at the rear. The frame should be lightweight, but strong and rigid under extreme loads. When developing a sports car, it is necessary to take into account the requirements of the racing series in which it is supposed to participate. A walking or beach buggy is usually a two-seater. Its purpose is active rest. Such a machine is preferable to an ATV, because with the same parameters of geometric cross-country ability and almost the same mass, passive safety is much higher. A durable roll cage protects the driver and passenger, and four-point belts prevent flying out of the seat. Utility buggies are widely used on farms. Equipped with a platform for transporting goods, they represent a low-cost alternative to traditional tractors and SUVs.
Step 2
Disassemble the donor. For a walking buggy, the maximum use of standard units and parts of the "Zaporozhets" is possible. Loosen the wheel disc nuts. Raise the machine on a lift. Remove the wheels. Remove the engine and transmission. Disassemble the undercarriage system - it will be used unchanged. Remove the brake system and electrics. If you intend to move on public roads, you will need bumpers, lighting equipment and a combination of devices. When disassembling, remember the location of components and assemblies. Don't lose your fasteners. Try to label all removed parts on the tag. At the end of the disassembly, hand over the body to scrap - it will no longer be needed.
Step 3
Design a buggy frame. Do not try to immediately start creating in metal - you will have to redo it. Remove the dimensions from the components and components of the suspension, transmission, engine mounts, steering gear. The main task in the design of the frame is to provide mounting sites for the installation of components and assemblies. Take care to ensure the mechanical strength of the structure. Remember to include roll bars to protect passengers when rollover. The motor must also be protected by arcs from above.
Step 4
Purchase frame materials and start assembling. It is best to first collect everything "on tacks", without performing continuous welds. Then install the main nodes and elements, and check how they fit together. Make design adjustments as necessary. After the test assembly, welds must be made. Then paint can be applied. After assembling the frame, the most difficult and responsible process of creating a buggy with your own hands is over.
Step 5
Install the spare parts previously removed from the "Zaporozhets". If necessary, disassemble the engine and transmission to ensure they are long enough. It is best to replace tires with similar ones with a rough tread pattern to facilitate off-road driving. It is not advisable to put the rubber with a very high ribbed tread, because when driving on asphalt roads, it wears out very quickly.
