Self-made snorkels from aluminum pipe, rubber corners and corrugation have a simple production technology at home. The design is solid, sufficient for use in difficult off-road conditions.

How to make a snorkel for a UAZ

It is necessary

  • - aluminum or polyethylene pipes;
  • - rubber corners;
  • - corrugation;
  • - fasteners.

Instructions

Step 1

Take the rubber corners from the ZMZ-406 engine. They are suitable for pipes with a diameter of 70 and 75 mm. Use the corrugation either from the same motor or from AZLK-2141. The latter option is preferable because has greater rigidity and fewer folds (reduced air resistance). The diameter of its necks is designed for pipes with a diameter of 75-80 mm. Take aluminum pipes with a diameter of 70 or 75 mm with a wall thickness of 3 mm. An attractive option with polyethylene pipes: they are quite soft and do not break when struck by branches and trees.

Step 2

The snorkel consists of two pipes: horizontal and vertical. The aluminum pipe is easier to pick up and bend to the desired angle. Connect the plastic pipes with rubber corners. Attach the horizontal part of the snorkel to the wing of the UAZ using two simple curved brackets and clamps. Make the brackets from a 2 mm thick aluminum strip.

Step 3

Secure the vertical part of the snorkel from the bottom with three windshield bolts, from the top - with two bolts for the welded corner. Do not use gutter attachment - unreliable. And you can use the made corner as an antenna bracket for a walkie-talkie. Connect the inner (engine compartment) horizontal pipe to the air filter using a corrugation. Digest the air filter inlet to ensure a tight connection. Recommended pipe lengths: vertical 95 cm, both horizontal (inner and outer) 45 cm.

Step 4

To install the snorkel, make a hole in the wall of the engine compartment to the left of the battery. Lead the inner pipe through this hole and use a rubber bracket to fit the outer horizontal pipe. Thoroughly seal all pipe connections, the point where the snorkel connects to the air filter and the point where the pipe exits the engine compartment, otherwise water will enter the passenger compartment through it. Reinforce the hole itself with a 1.5 mm wide strip of welded steel with a width of at least 20 mm, rolled up in a ring.
