The fashion to embed a decorative mesh in the bumper of a car is widespread among young car owners. Thus, the appearance of the car is slightly changed, making it different from other cars of the same brand.

It is necessary

  • - Electric jigsaw;
  • - a set of keys;
  • - screwdrivers;
  • - soldering iron;
  • - gas-burner;
  • - a sharp knife;
  • - marker;
  • - paint and colorless varnish;
  • - thin plywood;
  • - bumper support.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the bumper from the car. The main fasteners for the front bumper are located under the radiator grill. To gain access to these bolts, remove the radiator grill and, using a socket wrench, unscrew the mounting bolts, unscrew the side bolts in the same way, bending the plastic wheel arch liner. Now, carefully, using a thin flat screwdriver, through the gap between the fender and the bumper, undo the plastic clips that connect the edge of the bumper to the front fender. Do this slowly, pulling the edge of the bumper slightly up and away from the car. Thanks to the flexibility of the bumper, you can insert the tip of a flat screwdriver between the fender and the bumper to press on the fasteners. If you do not lift the edge of the bumper, the latches on the underside of the mounting plate will not release the bumper.

Step 2

After removing the bumper, put it on a stand, wash it well, remove any dirt - it will interfere with work.

Step 3

Using a jigsaw, cut out the plastic partitions from the windows in which you intend to install the mesh. Cut with a small margin, about 2-3 mm, to avoid accidentally damaging the bumper paintwork.

Step 4

Use a sharp knife to remove any remaining plastic. If there are minor flaws, fix them with a soldering iron. To do this, warm up the soldering iron and gently melt the sharp parts of the plastic that could not be cut with the knife. It makes no sense to display a perfectly smooth surface if you are not going to re-paint the bumper.

Step 5

Using the resulting windows in the bumper, cut the mesh with a margin of 5 cm, then attach it to one of the resulting windows in the bumper from the back side and outline the outline with a marker. Bend the edge of the mesh at an angle of 90 degrees along the resulting contour. Try to bend the edge with a slight rounding, about 2-3 mm. This will make it easier to finally fit the mesh to its seat.

Step 6

Peel back the edges and try on the mesh. If necessary, give it the necessary curvature so that it repeats the shape of the contours of the front bumper or matches your idea. Re-try, if necessary, adjust the edges to fit the seat.

Step 7

Paint the mesh. It is best to paint it in colors that go well with the color of your car. After painting, be sure to cover it with a colorless varnish and dry it well.

Step 8

Insert the mesh into the seat and from the back of the bumper, unfold the protruding edges of the mesh to the sides. This will form the mounting plane. Using a gas burner, heat the folded edges of the mesh and quickly, using a screwdriver, melt the hot edge of the mesh into the plastic of the bumper. Do not let go of the edge of the net until it cools down. Heat small areas, no more than 5cm wide, while it is advisable to cover the plastic of the bumper with some kind of wet plywood. It will not light up, because it takes no more than 10 seconds to warm up the mesh section, but it will protect the bumper from unnecessary deformation. It is not necessary to melt the mesh with a continuous layer, make 6-8 such points, this will be enough.

Step 9

Install the assembled bumper to the car.
