The muffler is one of the most important components of the exhaust system, which reduces the sound of the exhaust. At car markets and in auto parts stores, there is a wide selection of mufflers for all car models. The path to the correct choice of the unit lies in the optimal combination of price and quality of the product.
Instructions
Step 1
For the manufacture of mufflers, stainless, aluminized, aluminozinc or black (ordinary) steel is used. The most preferable is aluminized as it is very resistant to corrosion, and at the same time slightly more expensive than black. In Europe, plain steel is no longer used in the manufacture of mufflers. For example, a black steel muffler lasts about a year on average. Made of high quality aluminized steel - about 3-6 years. Black steel has a characteristic black color. The muffler can be painted with silver paint, but this does not affect its life in any way.
Step 2
A stainless steel muffler is rarely offered in retail stores and is usually an OE part. The fact is that such mufflers are significantly more expensive than conventional ones. And consumer preferences are not in their favor. Most of the mufflers on offer are aluminized steel. Tuning and sports mufflers are the most reliable and most expensive on offer. Depending on the manufacturer, they can be aluminized, stainless steel or combined.
Step 3
In terms of their internal structure, mufflers differ in the design of partitions and perforated pipes, in the level of sound absorption, in volume and in the presence of a double layer of the body. The first indicator characterizes the compliance of the muffler with the exhaust installed on a particular car system. The second envy is not only the level of noise during operation, but also resistance to thermal influences and resistance to blowing.
Step 4
When choosing a muffler, first of all, you should pay attention to the country and the company that made the part. This is indicated in the certificate, which must be presented by the seller. Turkish and Polish manufacturers do not really care about quality. But their purchase is still more profitable than the products of unknown and little-known firms.
Next, you should pay attention to the mass of the muffler: as a rule, the lighter the product, the worse it is.
Step 5
The muffler should be as identical as possible to the original in shape and size. The welds must be of good quality and free from wrinkles on the pipes. The manufacturer's stamp should be in the form of an embossed logo, not a sticker. You should beware of products painted with silver, with traces of deformation or installation attempts. The cost of a muffler is usually inversely proportional to the quality.
