Car window tinting is not only about aesthetics. Tinted windows allow less sunlight to pass through and prevent the driver from dazzling the driver with headlights of oncoming vehicles. But toning must be done in accordance with GOST in compliance with the current standards.
Light by norms
At the moment, car glass tinting is regulated by GOST, which has undergone significant changes in 2018. GOST itself regulates the level of light transmission into the car interior. All vehicle windows are divided into two categories: front view for the driver and rear view. Each category has its own percentage of light transmission. The windshield can be tinted with 75% light transmission. A little. But a 10 cm wide tint strip on top of the glass is allowed. Moreover, it can be of any degree of light transmission.
Front side windows cannot be tinted with a film less than 70%. It is strictly forbidden to use the so-called "removable" tint, curtains and blinds on the front windows.
Rear side windows and rear window can be tinted with foil with any percentage of light transmission. Curtains and blinds can also be used there without restriction.
But here we are talking about the classic black tint film. Some motorists use a mirror film that reflects light better. Metallized films also have their own permitted light transmittance. It makes up 60%.
Colored athermal film will not only hide the car interior from prying eyes, but also protect it from the sun's rays. And due to the ability of light refraction, it reduces the heating of the passenger compartment and the operation of the air conditioner. When choosing an athermal film, one must take into account its ability to create a mirror effect. Therefore, such a film must have at least 60% light transmission.
Check for legality
If a traffic policeman wants to check the legality of tinting on a car, he has the right to do this only at a stationary post. The light transmission of the film is measured using a special device - a taumeter. Moreover, measurements can be made both in the daytime and at night. The main thing is that there is no rain and high humidity. The air temperature should be at least 15 degrees Celsius. The glass must be washed and dried before measurement. The measurement is taken from three points on the glass surface.
If the measurements violate GOST, the inspector may offer the driver to remove the tint film on his own. In this case, there will be no penalty. Otherwise, the inspector will write you a fine of one and a half thousand rubles. But what if you are sure that you are right? Please note that any film has its own degree of wear. Water, dirt, mechanical damage significantly reduce the consumer properties of the film. Don't skimp on tint film. Chinese counterparts are attractive in price, but inferior in consumer properties to expensive counterparts.
