The Volkswagen Tuareg is equipped with bi-xenon main headlights with gas discharge lamps. Gas discharge lamps shine with both low and high beam at the same time. With the help of an electromechanical regulator, the light is distributed to the near and far, closing certain parts of the headlight with a shutter.

Instructions

Step 1

It is not necessary to disconnect earth from the battery before removing the headlamp. Switch off the ignition and all electrical consumers, remove the ignition key. Click on the headlight housing. In this case, the fixing bolt should be turned in the direction of the arrow Open, as shown on the sticker. It should be turned all the way, but without applying excessive force so as not to break the locking mechanism.

Step 2

After completing the described procedures, the headlamp should be extended forward. Pull the headlamp out of the fender recess until the headlamp rests against the retaining clip. Press down on the retaining clip and hold it down. At this time, completely remove the headlight from the niche in the body.

Step 3

Begin installing the headlight in its original place by installing the headlight in the guide grooves. Before doing this, make sure that there are no dirt on these grooves and check that the plug is firmly seated in the headlight mount. After inserting the headlight into the guides, gently push the headlight into its niche. When the headlamp is fully recessed, a faint but clear click should be heard, indicating that the retaining bracket is locked.

Step 4

Turn the fixing bolt towards Close as shown on the sticker. The retaining bracket should click into place with a distinct click. After installing the headlight, check the side clearances: they should be the same around the entire perimeter. If the gaps are not the same, the position of the headlight needs to be corrected. Check the functionality of the installed headlight for all its functions. Check the setting and alignment of the headlights.

Step 5

In order to correct the position of the headlight and correct any side clearances, remove the front bumper cover by unscrewing all the fastening bolts of the bumper cover guide profile. With the bumper guide rail removed, the two front mounting bolts are accessible. Loosen them so that the headlight, together with its mount, can move freely in the adjusting sleeves. By unscrewing or twisting the adjusting sleeves, adjust the clearances.

Step 6

After adjusting the headlight mounting bolts, tighten to the required torque specified in the factory instructions. After that, re-check the side clearances of the headlights. Install the bumper guide profile. Check the headlights for all functions. Check headlight alignment and adjust if necessary.
