The snow chains fitted to the vehicle transform the normal off-road tire into a real off-road wheel. The great advantage of wheel chains is that they can be put on just before the exit onto a dirt road or virgin soil, and drive along the highway as usual.
It is necessary
- - anti-skid chains;
- - car;
- - screwdriver;
- - pliers;
- - wrench.
Instructions
Step 1
Buy or make your own chains for your machine. When choosing a chain, pay attention to the size of the links - the larger the link, the more flotation, but at the same time, the rubber wear increases. To reduce wear, purchase “soft” chains with reinforced rubber “grousers”. In addition, they allow you to drive on asphalt at a speed of up to 80 km / h (in contrast to the "hard" ones, with which you should not reach speeds above 40 km / h).
Step 2
Remove wheel caps before installation to avoid quick wear. If you mount the chains on a wheel with an alloy wheel, be careful not to touch them, otherwise the wheel may be damaged.
Step 3
Place the chains on the drive wheels. If you have a 4WD vehicle, chain both pairs of wheels or just the front axle.
Step 4
In order to install the chains on the wheels, spread them along the axis of travel. Hook chains first, turn lanyards or eccentric tensioners outside. Spread them out carefully and drive in with either two front wheels or two rear wheels. Stop 20-30 cm from the end of the chain.
Step 5
Slide most of the chain onto the wheel, then hook on a hook or tighten the bolted connection from the inside. Spread out all chain links on the wheel and tighten the fastener from the outside. Try to fasten the hook on the farthest link so that it stretches. Use a screwdriver to do this.
Step 6
Tension the chain with eccentric tensioners by turning the wrench clockwise, or use a lanyard and a piece of chain tie to pull it diagonally across the wheel. After installing the chains, drive at least 1 km and then re-adjust the tension.
Step 7
If, while driving, you notice that the chain is touching the body or suspension of the car, stop as soon as possible and tighten the fasteners. Try to avoid hard braking and cornering, big potholes and bumps.
